The 2 most used ways to emulate monome on a launchpad are nomome and monomemu. Both emulators are made with Cycling Max. Cycling Max is a visual programming environment; you can program by connecting modules with patches. So for the emulators to work you must at leas have the cycling max runtime environment installed.
- Nomome
This is (shoot me if I'm wrong) the first monome emulator. It is a max program that runs as standalone. In the program you can run the monome apps. Btw the monome apps are free and you can find them here. This is really nice when you use your "monome" as a standalone music device. When you want to use it in conjunction with Ableton Live I recommend to use the next emulator: monomenu - Monomemu
When you have Ableton 8.1 or newer Max for live is installed. Max for live is a cycling max environment included in Ableton. You can make some crazy effects, instruments etc. whit it. Monomemu is a max4live app. So now the monome emulator is embedded in your ableton and it is possible to route the "monome" outputs into your ableton mixer. It also syncs with the ableton midi clock to stay in sync with your arrangements.
